Then your data might be at risk because the company admitted it’s been hacked. Again. Let’s take a look at what happened. Samsung just confirmed a data breach that affects its US-based customers. According to the company, the information accessed by the hackers includes users’ names, contact details, demographic data, dates of birth, and product registration data. If you’re not sure what demographic data means, you’re not the only one. Samsung’s spokesperson Chris Langlois told TechCrunch that it’s related to customer information used for marketing and advertising but didn’t give any more specifics. Samsung did specifically point out that none of the users’ Social Security numbers had been impacted. In a statement, the electronics giant said that the “security incident” happened in late July 2022 and was confirmed on August 4. The tech company did not say how many people were affected or why it took Samsung a month to warn users about the leak. This is not the first time Samsung experienced a breach this year. Back in March, the Lapsus$ hacking group stole almost 200 gigabytes of confidential data, including source code for various technologies and algorithms for biometric unlock operations.
