Attention, class! @SunlessKhan is back for this week's lesson. Rocket League games begin at the kickoff, so it's time you learn how to attack the ball at the start of every game. This week's lesson will get your team on the same page each and every kickoff, and can get you started learning how to do fast kickoffs. You know, you would think something as simple as kickoffs wouldn't need an entire rocket academy lesson. You would think. But Rocket League players like to make things difficult so even something as simple as hitting a stationary ball away from your goal can be problematic. So let's clear a few things up. Here are the most common issues players have with kickoffs, and how to fix them. The first one is everyone going to the wrong positions in 3v3 standard. The biggest issue people have is not knowing where to go if they're not going for the ball. Here are some simple rules that I learned from my pro friends to make it easier. If you're one of the two cars not going for the kickoff, like in this position, one should cheat up with the kickoff taker, and one should go for boost. Here this player is closer to the ball so they cheat up the one in the back gets the boost. Back cheats in this one. In twos, you should cheat when the situation allows for it. Another rule I like to follow is the car on the left takes the kick off if the two cars are even. If someone doesn't know about left goes and calls it, you should leave it though. Some people deny the existence of left goes which is exactly what I mean when I say Rocket League players like to make things difficult. And then there's the problem with actually hitting the ball. A lot of people still just drive straight at the ball use up all their boost and flip. But it's a good idea to do one diagonal flip on your way to the ball to save boost for right after kickoff. Players at any level should be able to become comfortable with controlling a simple flip at the ball. If you want to get really advanced learn to incorporate a speed flip which is currently the best kickoff in the game once you're consistent with the mechanic. We'll leave some links below to my favorite speed flip tutorials and more complete kickoff guides with in-depth strategies, but hopefully those few tips will clear up some confusion. The last problem is when people miss the ball completely on the kickoff, and the solution to that of course is to turn it into a fake kickoff play. Which can work nicely if you plan it ahead of time or if you didn't plan it but you know your teammate are trash and will miss even a stationary ball so they just sit there waiting for you to miss and that works too.
