Or how your Android might be spying on you? You’ve come to the right place! Welcome to NordVPN’s cybersecurity news recap! Here’s what you missed in the last two weeks. Over 200 Android apps in the Play Store are carrying spyware. If you recently downloaded a fitness or a photo editing app, you might want to check if anyone has tried to log into your Facebook lately. Researchers found that over 200 apps masquerading as VPNs, camera apps, and photo editors contain the Facestealer spyware that steals users’ personal data and credentials. This goes to show that you should only download apps you’ve done some research about. Click the card on the top-right corner of the video for Android security tips. This doesn’t mean you should breathe a sigh of relief if you own an iPhone, though. In fact, you should update it ASAP. Two months after releasing iOS 15.4, which patched 39 security issues, Apple is releasing the iOS 15.5. The update patches 34 more security issues that can be used for executing arbitrary code with kernel or system privileges or privilege elevation. Now, if you have a WordPress website, listen up. Hackers are exploiting a WordPress vulnerability to direct unsuspecting users to scam websites. According to researchers at Sucuri, over 6000 websites were hacked in April alone. To some, this may not come as a surprise, though. According to research from Patchstack, last year, the number of WordPress vulnerabilities increased by 150%. And 29% percent of those haven't received any patches. In other news, the European Union and its allies have accused Russia of a large-scale cyberattack hours before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24. The attack hit commercial satellite communications networks operated by Viasat. The company said that the attack interrupted service for tens of thousands of users in Ukraine and other European countries. It also reportedly disrupted service for thousands of European wind turbines. The UK and the US have also released statements echoing the EU’s accusations. Now, onto the music — let’s talk about Eurovision. Perhaps feeling a bit left out of the European Song Contest, Russian hackers tried to disrupt the competition. According to the Italian police, Russian hacking group Killnet attacked Eurovision's network infrastructure with the intention of disrupting performances and voting. The hacking group also attacked Italian institutions, including the Senate and the National Health Institute. Fortunately, the hackers failed, and Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra took first place.
