Joseph HAYDN: German National ANTHEM

In 1797, Austrian composer Joseph Haydn composed the music for 'Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser' ('God Save Emperor Francis') with lyrics by Lorenz Leopold Haschka. The anthem, written for Francis II, who served as Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and later became Emperor of Austria, was sung as the imperial anthem in Austria until the empire's end in 1867. In 1841 German poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben wrote the lyrics of "Das Lied der Deutschen"("The Song of the Germans") as a new text for that music promoting national unity instead of emphasizing the power and authority of a monarch. After Germany reunited in 1990, only the third stanza of the anthem was declared the national anthem of Germany in 1991: Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit Für das deutsche Vaterland! Danach lasst uns alle streben Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand! Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit Sind des Glückes Unterpfand – Blüh' im Glanze dieses Glückes, Blühe, deutsches Vaterland! Translation In English: Unity and Justice and Freedom For the German Fatherland! After these let us all strive Brotherly with heart and hand! Unity and Justice and Freedom Are the security of happiness – Bloom in the splendour of this happiness, Bloom, German Fatherland! --------------------------------------------------------- Learn about Joseph HAYDN - The Father of the SYMPHONY and STRING Quartet: https://youtu.be/QGlY7KNNHRQ --------------------------------------------------------- 📌 Help our channel grow: 👍 Like 🔔 Subscribe 🔄 Share with your friends 💬 Comment — your perspective is important! 📌 Support our channel by shopping with us: https://rb.gy/8t1do #germananthem #anthem #haydn
