Palworld Meets Terraria in Feybreak Update

In the midst of its defense against a patent lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, the Japanese developer Pocketpair released the massive Feybreak update for Palworld on December 23. The open-world monster-taming game has seen its ups and downs throughout the year, but it’s ending 2024 with new content and the promise of continued support into next year. This includes the earlier teased Terraria collaboration, which players of Palworld got their first taste of in the new Feybreak update.

Palworld Feybreak Update

Palworld is an open-world survival game in which players must use creatures called “Pals” to gather resources and help with combat. With a large world to explore and numerous quests to tackle, Palworld launched with a solid blend of combat and resource management. Before the new Feybreak update, the game featured 163 Pals for players to capture and collaborate with. The game also has online play, allowing up to 32 players to explore and catch Pals together on a dedicated server.

Having first launched Palworld in early access in January, Pocketpair has released numerous updates throughout the past year, including the Sakurajima update in June. The Feybreak update, similarly to the Sakurajima update, contains new pals, a new island, and new NPCs. However, the new island of Feybreak is said to be six times bigger than the island of Sakurajima, with several different biomes to explore.

It’s not only larger in island size than Sakurajima, but Feybreak also contains numerous new game mechanics as well. Players can now research new passive abilities and rewards at a research base to increase their Pal productivity. Pals can also now go out on expeditions to obtain supplies for players’ bases. The list of enemies has expanded with vicious predator Pals spawning throughout the world and new criminal NPCs who can be caught for cash rewards. This is all in addition to several new resources, items, Pals, and player skins that were all packaged into this update. And for those who want a greater challenge, Pocketpair has released a hardcore mode that makes player and Pal deaths permanent for maximum consequences.

After being teased earlier in the year, Palword’s crossover with the 2D action-adventure sandbox game Terraria has finally started to come to fruition. The Meowmere, a sword that shoots cat heads when it’s swung, is a popular weapon from Terraria that is now obtainable in the world of Palworld. The addition of this powerful new weapon is only a taste of what’s to come as a trailer teasing more crossovers between the worlds of Palworld and Terraria in 2025 was released alongside the update. In the trailer, those familiar with Terraria will recognize its iconic menu music and familiar weapon design as it shows off the powers of the cat-shooting Meowmere.

Since launching in early 2024, Palworld has continued to receive constant support that helped it grow in both scale and scope. Each major update release introduced new Pals, worlds to explore, and balancing updates to keep the game stable yet ever-changing. Now, after securing a high-profile collaboration with Terraria, it seems that Palworld will only continue to expand in 2025 as the team at Pocketpair continues to add new features and Pals for players to enjoy.
