New Subclasses Coming to Baldur’s Gate 3 in Upcoming Patch

Following its nine nominations and six victories at the 2023 Game Awards, the critically acclaimed role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 is still increasing in scope. In a recent community update, the game’s developer Larian announced that the game will be receiving an eighth post-launch patch in 2025. This impending update will include numerous long-requested features, but perhaps the most intriguing of them all is the announcement of 12 new subclasses being added to the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a turn-based role-playing game that takes place in the world of the Forgotten Realms. At the start of your game, you can fully customize your own character or choose from one of several pre-made characters. While creating your character, you must pick a class to specialize your weapon of choice and learned abilities. After a few level-ups, the game allows you to pick a specific subclass that allows you to specialize your playstyle even more. For example, a rogue who wants to focus more on silent kills than direct combat may choose the assassin subclass to do more critical hit damage while hidden. There are already 46 different subclasses in the game, so the addition of even more subclasses is that much more impressive.

The announced subclasses are spread across numerous primary classes. For those who are focused more on magic, there are several options. The bard class received the College of Glamour subclass which focuses on healing your friends and commanding enemies. Clerics can select the Death Domain subclass which is focused on necromancy. Sorcerer class users will get the Shadow Magic subclass and gain a new shadowy form of magic. The warlock class will receive the Hexblade subclass that is focused on magical weapons. Wizards who enjoy using swords will be pleased to hear that the new Bladesinging subclass will give them the chance to merge their love for swordplay with their love for wizardry. The druid Circle of Stars gives you new powers in the categories of archer, dragon, or chalice.

Players who prefer a more weapons-based playstyle may prefer one of the following subclasses. Barbarians received the Path of Giants which allows for extra carrying capacity and additional damage from throwing attacks. For paladins, there is the Oath of Crowns which enhances your ability to aid allies and disrupt foes. The Arcane Archer subclass in the fighter class will allow you to specialize in both magic and archery skills. With the Drunken Master subclass, monks will gain the ability to consume alcohol to recover ki. The ranger’s Swarmkeeper subclass gives players the power to call in deadly swarms to attack enemies. With the Swashbuckler subclass, rogues will be able to channel their inner pirate with an array of new abilities.
